WebAbstract To clarify the role of disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) in women with the hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelets (HELLP) syndrome, serial coagulation studies were performed prospectively in 18 patients. WebHELLP is an acronym that refers to a syndrome in pregnant and postpartum individuals characterized by hemolysis with a microangiopathic blood smear, elevated liver enzymes, and a low platelet count [ 1 ]. It probably represents a severe form of preeclampsia ( table 1A-B ), but the relationship between the two disorders remains controversial.
